About the Center for the Environment

The Center for the Environment (C4E) draws its strength from the faculty members and students across Purdue who have a demonstrated, major, professional commitment to research and education on environmental challenges and solutions. This community of researchers represents a diversity of disciplines in the natural and physical sciences, engineering and applied science, public health, communication, economics, and related areas. By supporting and connecting individuals from these different disciplines, the center seeks to enhance the impact of Purdue’s interdisciplinary environmental programs, projects, and initiatives.

Become Affiliated

We encourage faculty who would like to take a more active role in the interdisciplinary environmental community facilitated by the center to consider becoming a C4E faculty affiliate. Faculty affiliation with the C4E is inclusive and extended to all who aim to advance the mission and development of the center. Faculty affiliates are expected to actively participate in center-sponsored activities including seminars, symposia, recruiting new faculty and students, and project development; and exhibit an enthusiasm and willingness to work and provide leadership.

There are many benefits to being a C4E faculty affiliate including: (1) seed funding opportunities for new collaborative research, (2) regular announcements about campus environmental events and news, (3) networking opportunities with other affiliates in the C4E-supported signature areas, (4) administrative support for new projects and proposal development, (5) opportunities for undergraduate internship support, and (6) the opportunity to be featured in the C4E website, annual report, and other promotional materials.
