International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor

Nuclear scientists at Purdue are contributing to a wide range of nuclear energy related research including nuclear reactor physics and reactor design, reactor thermalhydraulics and accident analysis, nuclear power systems diagnostics and control, and advanced nuclear fuel development and testing. Purdue researchers are also involved in a wide range of nuclear materials research activities including radiation effects in reactor materials and fuels. At the Center for Materials Under Extreme Environments (CMUXE), researchers conduct cutting edge research in plasma-materials interactions, high power targets for accelerators, hydrogen behavior in materials, and plasma simulations. Part of this effort is conducted under the International Thermonuclear Engineering Reactor (ITER).

Purdue researchers are also involved in a wide range of nuclear materials research activities including radiation effects in reactor materials and fuels.
