Accomplishments and Future Plans

Since its start, the Biotechnology Innovation and Regulatory Science (BIRS) Center has had the opportunity to host many short courses with a wide range of topics. After the course, the content was available online. Please view those here

Additionally, in May 2017, the BIRS Center hosted the 1st Annual Summit of Academic Excellence in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Science. This included a speaker list of respected industry and higher educaiton leaders. To view the presentations from the summit, please go here

Due to the global focus of the BIRS Center, two certificate programs have been offered to the Global Regulatory Science Professional Community in Tanzania and surrounding countries. The first certificate program, held in September 2017, focused on Quality Culture. The following certificate program, in March 2018, focused on Evidence-Based Natural Medicine and Documents & Dialogues.

With a well-rounded team, the Biotechnology Innovation and Regulatory Science (BIRS) Center has produced a variety of publications. To view those, please go here.

Purdue Polytechnic Institute graduated its first cohort of African students in May 2016, who have been largely responsible for the success of the two certificate programs held, on site, at Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy. See the graduation story here.

Since the first cohort of students in Africa have earned graduate degrees, we were able to secure funding for a new cohort of students. Many participated in the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 certificate programs and are continuing their higher education by pursuing a Master's degree in Biotechnology Innovation and Regulatory Science. This project was generously funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and will run from August 2018 through August 2020. Students have already participated in the Fall 2018 courses Global Drug Development and Regulatory Considerations for Drug Substance (API) Dossier Submission and Review and will continue this Spring in Innovation in  Regulatory Practices and Innovation in Biotechnology. You can read more about the mission of this funded project here. You can also read about our amazing team here.
