Director, Center for the Environment, Discovery Park, Purdue University

Purdue University seeks an individual with vision and demonstrated leadership skills to guide an innovative team of scholars as the Director of the Center for the Environment in Discovery Park on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/). Discovery Park – where disciplines Converge to Solve Global Challenges – is internationally recognized as a leader in interdisciplinary research, distinguished by a convergence of physical, life, and engineering sciences, along with data science, advanced digital technologies as well as social sciences and humanities.

The mission of the Center for the Environment (C4E) is to promote proactive, interdisciplinary research, learning, and engagement at Purdue addressing important environmental challenges. The Center helps to connect faculty and students across departments and disciplines who working on these challenges, supports innovative projects, and increases the impact of Purdue's work on important environmental issues through outreach and stakeholder engagement activities. We work closely with campus faculty to integrate interdisciplinary environmental education and training with research.

The Director of the Center for the Environment is expected to encourage use of the unique infrastructure of Discovery Park, the Center's startup resources, and Purdue's extensive recent investments in environmental studies and engineering to combine discovery, engagement, and learning activities into a world class Center at Purdue University. Discovery Park is home to Purdue's large-scale interdisciplinary research and engagement programs where the entire spectrum of the mission of the land grant university is realized from fundamental and applied research to continuing education and economic development. Nestled on 40 acres on the southwest edge of Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, our complex of facilities provides open, collaborative research environments where interdisciplinary projects are connected throughout Purdue, Purdue Research Park and the world. The Director reports to the Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Discovery Park and provides a leadership role for interdisciplinary environmental programs on campus working closely with Academic Deans, Department Heads, Discovery Park researchers, the faculty affiliated with the Center for the Environment, and external stakeholders.

The Director should be a Purdue faculty member at the rank of a full professor with demonstrated excellence and record of accomplishments in environmental science, engineering and/or management. Administrative experience in the leadership of multi-investigator research projects is desired, as is experience in helping to build new interdisciplinary environmental programs integrating research, education, and engagement with non-academic constituencies. Experience with university/industrial partnerships is also desirable.

The Director will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Director, Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), Discovery Park, Purdue University

Purdue University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) in Purdue’s Discovery Park.

CERIAS is widely recognized as a global leader for multidisciplinary research and education in cyber- and cyber-physical system assurance, security, resiliency, and privacy. CERIAS brings together world-class faculty, staff, and students to address the evolving concerns surrounding computing, data, communications and the digitally connected world. It was launched from Purdue’s College of Science 20 years ago as one of the “Original Seven” DHS/NSA centers for academic excellence in information assurance. 

Discovery Park – where disciplines converge to solve global challenges – is internationally recognized as a leader in interdisciplinary research, distinguished by a convergence of physical, life, and engineering sciences, along with cyber and data science, advanced digital technologies and the social sciences and humanities. CERIAS-associated research intersects all areas of Discovery Park’s strategic themes.  As a crosscutting element of Discovery Park (DP), CERIAS will work with all of DP’s centers and institutes, and across all of Purdue University, to build on its extensive track record, and expand its visibility gaining access to new collaborative opportunities with Purdue faculty and external partners.

CERIAS has a robust external partnership program that encourages industry collaboration on, and feedback to, research and educational initiatives. Through this program, the Center helps drive current commercial technology and influence relevant research, education and training of Purdue University students from 18 different academic departments.  

The next director must have the vision and ability to foster successful partnership between CERIAS and other university assets to create new interdisciplinary activities of national and international distinction. The CERIAS director will launch new initiatives at the intersection of cyber-/cyber-physical security, global health, sustainability and defense to leverage new opportunities for funding by federal agencies and commercial industry.  The director will be responsible for defining and executing the overall mission of the Center, including establishing and implementing a strategic plan to position Purdue as a global leader in targeted areas.

The director will report to the Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Purdue’s Discovery Park. The director will provide leadership related to opportunity capture, execution and evaluation, and relationship management of internal and external stakeholders. The director interacts routinely with other Discovery Park Center Directors and staff, the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships, College Deans, and faculty leaders conducting research in all related areas. 

The candidate’s distinguished career accomplishments must be suitable to hold a tenured-faculty position in Computer Science at Purdue University. The candidate must possess an understanding of government and industry relations and have past administrative/policy experience working in or with a higher education environment. Individual must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security clearance.

Director, Bindley Bioscience Center (BBC), Discovery Park, Purdue University

Purdue University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Bindley Bioscience Center (BBC) in Purdue’s Discovery Park. Discovery Park – where disciplines Converge to Solve Global Challenges – is internationally recognized as a leader in interdisciplinary research, distinguished by a convergence of physical, life, and engineering sciences, along with data science, advanced digital technologies as well as social sciences and humanities. The mission of the Bindley Bioscience Center is to integrate interdisciplinary life sciences research with engineering, nanotechnology and data science to create unique opportunities to solve global challenges in the life sciences. The BBC Director is expected to bring visionary leadership to leverage and enhance synergies across both existing and emerging strengths at Purdue. The University has made an ambitious multidisciplinary investment in the Life Sciences with a strong emphasis and new institutes focused on Infectious disease and immunology, neuroscience, drug discovery, plant science and cancer research. The Bindley Biosciences Center is the premier Purdue facility that enables and supports research across multiple areas. The Director should have the vision to build a successful partnership between the BBC and these new institutes to create new interdisciplinary activities of national and international distinction. The BBC Director is expected to launch new initiatives at the intersection of life sciences, engineering and data science that create new opportunities, and align with and enhance the university’s strategic investments in the life sciences. Key to success will be strengthening and expanding partnerships with the Birck Nanotechnology Center and other Discovery Park centers.

The Director will be responsible for defining and executing the overall mission of the Center, including establishing and implementing a strategic plan to position Purdue as a global leader in targeted areas at the convergence of the life, engineering, and physical and data sciences. The Director reports to the Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Purdue’s Discovery Park. The Director will lead all efforts involved in the development and implementation of her/his strategic plan. The Director will provide leadership related to opportunity capture and evaluation, and relationship management of internal and external stakeholders. The Director interacts routinely with Purdue’s Discovery Park Center Directors and staff, the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships, College Deans, and faculty leaders conducting research in key Life Sciences, Engineering, Nanotechnology and Data Science areas.

Candidates must have credentials appropriate for appointment as Professor (Ph.D. in Science, Engineering or related field) at Purdue University. The Director will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
