Spencer Evans
Major:  Environmental Engineering + International Agronomy

Spencer is President of the Purdue Student Farm Organization and is a senior double majoring in Environmental Engineering and International Agronomy. He joined the organization in the winter of his sophomore year and was therefore lulled into thinking that farming was a whimsically simple endeavor. His experience as a student farm intern quickly corrected such a ridiculous notion, but gave him bulging biceps and abs of steel that have since been lost under pounds of delicious food made from produce grown at the student farm...the Earth giveth, and she taketh away. The Student Farm has given Spencer fresh perspective on the importance of local food systems and sustainable production. Further, it has given him the satisfaction of eating multitudes of delicious fruits and vegetables he helped grow as part of a diverse and wonderful community of students. Most importantly, the Student Farm experience has given Spencer the special right to be a food snob and criticize his friends' food purchases for the rest of his life. You should join too!

Amanda Duncan
Major:  Animal Science

Amanda is a junior in Animal Science Production and is interested in sustainable farming systems. She is interested in making farming a more ecological and self-sustainable endeavor. Her favorite part of the Student Farm is working with the bees and the peaceful serenity of being out in nature. She has enjoyed watching the farm grow and looks forward to see it further reach out into the community.

Amelia Laub
Major:  Animal Science

Amelia is a junior majoring in Animal Sciences with a minor in Horticulture. Over the summer she participated in the Student Farm Summer Internship and has taken the Small Farms Experience class, SFS 210. Grateful for what the farm has taught her about seeding, transplanting, cultivation, and harvesting, she hopes to apply her knowledge to her future career and personal interests in horticulture.

Chelsea Maupin
Major:  Sustainable Food and Farming Systems

Chelsea is a freshmen in Sustainable Food and Farming Systems. Supporting communities through the growth of sustainable, local foods excites her, so the student farm club has been a great mix of experience, foods, friendship, and fun. When she's not busy pursuing studies, you'll often find her swing dancing, researching vertical and/or urban gardening, or trying a new veg-intensive recipe (and sometimes not-so-healthy ones. Nutella cupcakes, anyone?).

Laura Johnson
Major:  Agricultural Engineering

Laura is a senior in Agricultural Engineering. She was a 2014 Summer Intern at the Student Farm and loved every task, especially beet weeding (sarcastic), going to farmers markets (NOT sarcastic) and enjoying the fruits of labor (extremely NOT sarcastic). Her favorite parts about the farm, aside from great people and delicious food, are the opportunities available to try new things like: driving the tractor, attending the IN Small Farms Conference, farm tours, greenhouse work, hoophouse building, and all of the other learning that one gets when exposed to growing a wide variety of crops.

Sabrina Myoda
Major:  Sustainable Food and Farming Systems

Sabrina Myoda is a Class of 2018 student majoring in Sustainable Food and Farming Systems. She grew up around backyard gardens, and wants to expand her knowledge in order to teach small farming techniques or operate her own small farm. Besides hanging out with the farm dogs, Sabrina’s favorite thing to do on the Student Farm is to harvest herbs!

Rachel Beyer

Rachel is originally from the rolling woods of southern Indiana but got her start as a vegetable grower at the Michigan State University Student Organic Farm in 2009. Since graduation she has spent time: 1) as an assistant instructor to the MSU Organic Farmer Training Program, 2) managing an eleven acre vegetable and cut flower operation in Bloomington, 3) starting up the four season Residency Farm at Tilian Farm Development Center in Ann Arbor, MI, and 4) managing a 250 share CSA at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. Before farming consumed her life, Rachel travelled in West Africa, earned a degree in International Studies, and performed for many years with two small modern dance companies. After so much roaming, Rachel is thrilled to be returning to her roots as the new manager of the Purdue Student Farm-- back home in Indiana and back working with other young people who want to be farmers.
