Purdue Extension Organic Agriculture

The Purdue Extension Organic Agriculture program coordinates extension and collaborative research programs in organic agriculture in Indiana.  The program seeks to identify and address the diverse educational and technical resource needs of certified organic and transitioning to organic farmers.  This is accomplished through one-on-one technical support and formal extension programs for farmers, agricultural professionals, and landowners.  We also offer professional development training for educators and agency staff to support the growing organic sector in Indiana.  If you have program suggestions, questions, or would like to get involved, Contact us!

Organic Grain Transition Project

Purdue University, in collaboration with Indiana University, was awarded a NCR-SARE Research and Education grant to identify and address challenges facing Indiana grain farmers transitioning to organic production.  As part of this project, we will develop a series of educational programs on organic grain transition, and facilitate regional farmer networks in Indiana as a means for farmers to connect and learn from other farmers in transition or already producing organic grains.  Check out a recent news release to learn more about the project.

Organic Field Crop AgSEED Project

We were awarded a Purdue AgSEED grant to develop Purdue’s capacity to support the organic field crop sector in Indiana.  Project objectives focus on building a state organic advisory to inform Purdue’s research and extension efforts in organic agriculture, transitioning acreage at a Purdue Agricultural Center (PAC) for organic field crop demonstration and research, and developing financial decision making tools (e.g., crop budgets) on organic field crop financials and transition strategies.  Visit the AgSEED page to learn more about the project.
