Classroom Resources for All Grade Levels

Agriculture and Environmental Lesson Plans– This page provides links to lesson plans, classroom projects, and teaching activities for: Agriculture, Aquaculture, Forestry, Animal Science, Environment, Food Science/Culinary Arts, Horticulture, Floriculture, and Landscaping. Covers grades K-12.

Indiana Farm Bureau–Agriculture in the Classroom– The Ag in the Classroom program is coordinated by the Indiana Farm Bureau and offers lessons and materials free of charge to schools, community groups, and other non-profit organizations to help kids understand where the food they eat is grown and how important farmers are to their daily lives. Click on “Classroom Center” for lessons and activities. Covers grades K-12.

National AG in the Classroom (AITC) – The National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix is an online, searchable, and standards-based curriculum map that offers instructional, classroom-ready resources related to science, social studies, and nutrition education that are linked to the national Common Core Standards.Covers grades K-12.

National Popcorn Board – The Popcorn Board provides interdisciplinary educational teaching tools designed to introduce students to popcorn and its many applications. You will find lesson plans for the following subjects: Agricultural Sciences, Art, Music, Literature, Business, Health Sciences/Nutrition, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Popcorn is at the base of all lesson plans, and many plans require popped popcorn. Covers grades K-12.

The Sciences of Agriculture– The lesson plans in this booklet are standards-aligned; focused on science, social studies, geography, and reading; and bring agriculture-themed learning to the classroom. Covers grades K-12

Classroom Resources for Elementary Classrooms (K-5)

4-H Afterschool Agriculture– This activity guide’s intent is to promote agricultural literacy among young people during out-of-school time while developing their understanding, appreciation, and application of science through a variety of hands-on agriculturally-based activities. Covers grades 3-5.

After School Agriculture  Activities and lessons presented by Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom to enhance after-school programs. The lessons have been structured to fit a five-day schedule for each agricultural category. Lessons throughout the week will include a Reading/Vocabulary Activity, a Hands-On Activity, a Science Activity, a Math Activity, and a Nutrition Activity. Covers grades K-3.

Ag-tivity Book (K-3)– This book includes a handy collection of ready-to use activity sheets that integrate agriculture into basic school subject areas. Includes lessons in language arts, social studies, science & environmental education, health & nutrition, and creative arts. Covers grades K-3.

Ag-tivity Book (4-6)– This book includes a handy collection of ready-to use activity sheets that integrate agriculture into basic school subject areas. Includes lessons in language arts, history, social studies, science & environmental education, health & nutrition, math, and creative arts. Covers grades 4-6.

Barnyard Chronicles– The Barnyard Chronicles series, aligned to Indiana educational standards, brings agriculture into the classroom in a fun, entertaining, and educational way. This website has several resources for use in the classroom, including lesson plans, fact sheets, classroom activity ideas, videos, and the popular Barnyard Chronicles books. Includes lessons and resources in math, science, social studies, health, language arts, and art. Covers grades 2-3.

Busy Barns Adventure Farm– Busy Barns Farm provides an agricultural-based education program each season in order to broaden the knowledge base of elementary-aged students. Includes lessons in language arts, reading, math, science, and art. Covers grades K-4.

Kentucky Farms Feed Me – Virtual field trip, curriculum series, and related resources developed by Kentucky Agriculture & Environment in the Classroom, Inc. that bring farms and farmers to the classroom to help students make informed decisions about food choices, learn about the daily work of farmers, and get a glimpse of skills needed for farming, food processing, and business management. Focuses on standards related to Practical Living, Vocational Skills, and Technology. Covers Grades K-5, and can be modified for grades 6-8.

The Popcorn Program The Popcorn Program is an interdisciplinary educational guide designed by The Popcorn Board to introduce students to popcorn and its many applications. In this package, you will find lesson ideas for the following subjects: Social Studies, Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Health and Consumer Science (Home Economics).  Covers grades K-8.
