Transferring to and from Purdue-West Lafayette

It is a common misunderstanding that when you transfer from one university to another you can "take" your financial assistance with you.  This is not so!  Please follow these steps to transfer financial aid eligibility to or from Purdue University West Lafayette.

TRANSFERRING AID TO PURDUE-WEST LAFAYETTE

  1. Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information must be forwarded to Purdue University. Contact the Federal Processor at 1-800-433-3243 or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov to have your FAFSA forwarded here. Our institution's Title IV code number is 001825. Purdue University uses only the FAFSA data to determine eligibility for need-based aid and will only accept the FAFSA from the Federal Processor. DFA may request documents to verify FAFSA data. Do not send verification documents unless DFA has requested them.
  2. If you have ever received a Health Professions Student Loan Program (HPSL) loan, you must have a financial aid transcript sent to Purdue University from each institution(s) where you received a HPSL loan.  Contact the financial aid office at the institution(s) to request a financial aid transcript to be sent to Purdue.
  3. If you have an award from the Indiana Division of Student Financial Aid (SFA), formerly known as the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI), you will need to contact them directly to change your school choice.  You can make the update online on youreStudent account. They will not change your college choice over the phone or through email.
  4. If you have a scholarship awarded to you from a private award donor (an entity other than the college/university you’re currently attending), contact the donor to determine if the award can be used at Purdue University.  Notify your donor(s) you will be attending Purdue University so they can forward any awards to the Office of the Bursar, 1060 Hovde Hall, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907-1060.
  5. If you received the first disbursement of a Federal Stafford Loan at your previous institution, they will need to cancel the second disbursement and notify your lender.  You will need to reapply for your remaining loan eligibility at Purdue University.
  6. If you want to transfer from a different Purdue campus to the West Lafayette campus on a temporary basis, consult with The Office of Admissions in regard to being admitted to a degree program at the West Lafayette campus.  If this is not possible, consult with a financial aid counselor regarding submitting a written appeal to the Division of Financial Aid Review Committee for use of a consortium agreement between West Lafayette and the other Purdue campus.
