Dr. David Wolf

"No Truce at 5:00"

Friday, September 25

STEW 214 CD: 10:15 - 11:15 AM

David Wolf will share rarely seen footage and narrate video providing an "inside look" at how the Space Shuttle was utilized to build the International Space Station (ISS). He will address both the successes and failures, including their immediate and root causes, which (counter to intuition) trace back to drift in Corporate Culture, Political Pressures, and Compromises in the system design and development. He will share his most memorable experiences from his historic 128 day mission to the Mir space station, the Space Lab, and two missions to the ISS, including 7 Spacewalks, biotechnology research, and long duration living in Space. He will engage the audience in discussion of the challenges of future spaceflight and the applicability to high performance teams. Dr. Wolf is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Spektron Systems, an early stage company enabling novel methodology for more rapid and well targeted pharmaceutical molecule design. He is a pioneer in the emerging field of 3-Dimensional Tissue Engineering with 17 patents laying the basis for technology utilized world-wide for regenerative medicine and cancer research. He was the Chief designer of the ISS Medical System and has led teams through a broad range of Earth and Space based research translating to multiple commercial entities. Astronaut Wolf has survived multiple major spacecraft systems failures and discusses the team approach to mitigating and resolving such critical conditions. Enjoy this "front row" seat into spaceflight and the extraordinary teams committed to converting that vision to tactical implementation.
