“…an unexpected blend of classically trained musicianship and hip-hop beats and inventiveness.”
The Miami Herald

Hip-hop on strings? Classical training remixed with contemporary beats? Don’t bother pinning down the ingenious sound of Black Violin. Redefinition has always been the goal for Kevin Sylvester (violin) and Wilner Baptiste (viola). After all, Baptiste meant to study saxophone at the performing arts school where he met Sylvester…but Baptiste stuck with classes he was given. Since 2004, Black Violin has collaborated with Kanye West, Tom Petty, Wu-Tang Clan, Wyclef Jean, Alicia Keys, and more. Their latest album, Stereotypes, topped Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart while reaching #4 on Billboard’s R&B chart. Alongside DJ SPS and drummer Nat Stokes, Black Violin creates its own distinctive kaleidoscope of sound, style, and swagger.
