“Justin Roberts has a remarkable ability to see through a child’s eyes… the Judy Blume of kiddie rock.” – The New York Times
Justin Roberts knows that inside every one of us there is a mini-rocker waiting to come out. You don’t have to have fancy instruments or a pitch-perfect voice to make it happen- just a shoebox, some rubber bands, a little elbow grease, and you’re on your way! Four-time Grammy nominated children’s musician Justin Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families’ lives for 20 years, and now with his latest concert program, Be Your Own Band, Justin and his band the Not Ready for Naptime Players will get your kids started on their own rock journey by making simple homemade instruments out of everyday objects, right there on stage. Incorporated into a concert of his fun, interactive, and highly sophisticated songs, you won’t know who is having more fun – you or your kids!
Roberts began his musical career in the 1990s in Minneapolis. While playing in an indie rock band he decided to “moonlight” as a Montessori preschool teacher, and it wasn’t long before Justin started writing and singing songs for a new generation of fans: his students. He released his first album in 1997, Great Big Sun, and soon began receiving comparisons to everyone from Elvis Costello and Fountains of Wayne to Paul Simon and Nick Lowe. Over 23 years later, he has released over a dozen albums, authored multiple books, performed on some of the country’s biggest stages, and appeared in front of millions of people through television appearances like The Today Show.
