Providing interaction between students and artists both in and beyond the theatre is an important part of our mission. The Purdue Convocations Curricular Connections program offers opportunities for preschool through grade 12 (P-12) and college-level students to experience performances and learn more about the artists in the classroom.
Last season, we held eight weekday matinee shows on the Purdue campus or in local theaters. Over 4,000 students attended and over half of them received a subsidized or free ticket. These scholarships, as we call them, amounted to more than $7000 for tickets and $2,225 for transportation costs – all thanks to gifts from individual and corporate support.
Your support of our education programs is crucial to their success, because almost half of their cost is funded by individual and corporate support. Some schools can afford to purchase their matinee field-trip tickets, while your extra support – be it a one-time cash gift, a payroll contribution, or a recurring credit card charge – will directly subsidize ticket and transportation costs for the ones who can’t. An extra $5 is enough to send one elementary student to a Convocations matinee performance. An extra $100 is enough to send a whole class. $500 would be used to bring an artist into a college or elementary classroom. With field trip and arts budgets being routinely cut or lessened, you can have a critical impact on a student’s increased cultural understanding through your donation.
