If you hear classical music and don’t get excited, we’re here to expand your horizons. There are a million reasons to see cellist, Camille Thomas at Purdue in October, but we’ll just give you seven.

  1. Her program is fantastic. It’s a mix of well-known composers including Brahms and Beethoven.
  2. See her 200-year-old cello! It’s nicknamed after the winery, Château Pape Clément since it’s on loan from French Wine magnate Bernard Magrez. The cello was made in 1788 by world-renowned instrument maker, Fernando Gagliano.
  3. Although Thomas is still relatively unknown in North America, that’s not for long. In Europe, she’s already won multiple prestigious awards and played with some of their most notable ensembles including the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Staatsorchester Hamburg in the Elbphilharmonie, the Lucerne Festival Strings in the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux, and Brussels Philharmoni. How cool is it that she can add West Lafayette to that list?
  4. If that’s not enough, the talented French pianist Julien Brocal is performing as her accompanist. His playing has been described as “quietly riveting” by the Guardian. Learn more about Julien Brocal here.
  5. Did you know Julien and Camille both primarily speak french? You can be apart of a stirring musical performance that transcends language and culture.
  6. Plus, it’s ok if you don’t know a ton about classical music! There’s a pre-show discussion with Margo Marlatt who is both a cellist and the executive director of the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society.
  7. Need another reason? Watch Camille Thomas discuss her latest album and get excited to see her in October!

Who needs any more reasons? It’s obvious! You do not want to miss out on Camille Thomas’ emotional and virtuosic cello performance on Thursday, October 24th in Loeb Playhouse.
