Thomas Kieffer

Purdue Alumni, Delta Air Lines

Thomas Kieffer first got interested in aviation when he was about 6 years old. Growing up, he wanted to attend Purdue University to become a pilot. He began flight lessons at age 15 and finished his private pilot’s license after his junior year in high school. He started at Purdue University in the fall of 2011. He was involved with the flight team and Aviation Technology Student Council. Thomas was a flight instructor for the university for two years and flew the Phenom, Beechjet, and the Nextant his junior and senior year. After graduating in May of 2015, he started as a first officer at Endeavor Air on the CRJ-200 in Detroit. After about two years, he upgraded to captain at New York’s La Guardia airport and later went to Atlanta. In March of 2018 he started as a first officer at Delta Air Lines based in New York flying the Boeing 757 and 767 domestically and internationally. Some of Thomas’ favorite trips have been to Dakar, Berlin, Lisbon, Madrid, and Brussels. Thomas still enjoys flying general aviation when he’s not flying jets. He flies at his local airport often and co-owns a Christen Eagle aerobatic biplane with a friend. Thomas plans to have the airplane at Purdue Aviation Day, so take a look for it out on the ramp!
