It enhances the well-being and production of food and performance animals and the facilitation of the bond between animals and humans. The veterinary medical profession bears the major responsibility for the health of the nation's livestock and the companion animal population. The role of the veterinarian in public health is very important because human health depends in many respects upon the health of animals in the environment.
