Global Development, Global Justice: Leading, Engaging, and Doing Research
Focus: Peacebuilding and Political Violence Prevention
Speakers: TBA

Co-hosted by the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence (SBBCLE) and the Purdue Policy Research Institute (PPRI)

Continuing the Courageous Conversations sessions from 2021-22, the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence (SBBCLE) and the Purdue Policy Research Institute (PPRI) will host a half-day intensive event that brings together experts, practitioners, and the larger academic community to discuss peacebuilding and political violence prevention. This topic will be addressed in the context of global development and global justice with the objective to structure next steps. Opportunities to engage further in working groups will be available following this event as courageous conversations leading to action.

The event will be held in two parts as listed below. Brief preparatory materials will be provided in advance to registrants to support and frame discussion.

PART 1 | Discussion of the issues, work, and existing policies
Global development and global justice are the ends to be met through concerted efforts bearing in mind the wicked problems to be disentangled. Leadership of global institutions and forums are well situated to influence these efforts, including those concerning peacebuilding and violence prevention in profound ways.  In Part 1 of the Courageous Conversation, speakers will approach the notion of global development with a critical focus on the current state of peacebuilding and violence prevention practices and challenges.

PART 2 | Framing possibilities for next steps
Following Part 1’s discourse, Part 2 of the Courageous Conversation will move to action-oriented discussion on policies, best practices, and policy making related to the emergent themes of Part 1 on peacebuilding and violence prevention practices in the context of global development. In this session, a panel of engaged researchers, practitioners, and policy influencers will frame possibilities for next steps. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the panelists to flesh out ideas further. Following the session, participants and others will be invited to join working groups intended to move potential next steps forward. Following the session, interested attendees will be invited to join working groups to develop policy briefs, reports, op-eds, pursue research and/or funding (or other activities as collaboratively defined) with PPRI and the Butler Center.
