Once an IRB Protocol submission is fully developed and ready for review, the record must be submitted and Academic Approvals obtained prior to IRB intake.  This is completed through the standard Coeus Routing & Approval mechanism where specified approvers must indicate their submission authorization within CoeusLite in order for the next level of approval to be activated.

Clicking the “Validate” button in the left navigation will manually initiate the Coeus Validation Checks.  Validation checks are system rules that have been locally defined and will look at what has been entered in the record.  Some Validations will produce Errors that MUST be fixed before the protocol can be submitted, others will be Warnings that provide helpful information or recommendations.  Validations will also automatically run once the Submit to IRB process has been initiated.

bulletSubmit to IRB

Clicking the Submit to IRB will first initiate the Validation Checks, then require identifying information about the type of protocol that will be submitted.  Once a protocol has been Submitted to IRB that record is locked for editing.  Submitting to IRB will then initiate the Routing & Approval process to collect Academic Approvals.  Once the Routing is complete, the protocol will be submitted to IRB for review.

bulletRouting & Approval

Coeus Routing & Approval is the standard system functionality used to collect Academic approvals electronically that are then permanently tied to that specific submission.  The Routing & Approval must be fully completed prior to IRB receiving the protocol for review.
