NIH Increases Stipend Levels for FY 2009 - 07/28/09

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in March established higher budgetary and stipend levels for the fiscal year (FY) 2009 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards. The increases apply to undergraduate, predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees and fellows.

The increases are effective for all awards made on or after Oct. 1, 2008.

The new stipend levels for trainees and fellows begin at $7,896 for undergraduates, provides $20,976 for predoctoral trainees, and allows $37,368 to $51,552 for postdoctoral trainees and fellows depending on years of experience.
