iPads Covered by University’s Electronic Device and Service Policy - 05/5/11

The University’s revised Technology Allowance Rates Guidelines cover iPads. According to the updated guidelines, “Personally owned iPad’s will be treated under the same guidelines.”

However, because iPads are essentially personal computers, they do not require a data plan to be functional. In situations where certain functionality of an individual device is tied to a data plan, the iPad then is subject to the Electronic Device and Service Policy V.4.2.

Staff who use their personal iPads for University business must adhere to the University’s computer security policies with regard to data handling classifications and guidelines, as well as other policies and procedures regarding the secure use and transmission of University data.

Please see the IT Policies and Best Practices web page, including Mobile Device Security for more information.
