Essential.<\/strong>\u00a0The INhome (short for Indiana home) featured efficient systems and sustainable design without sacrificing modern comforts and amenities. The INhome was fully functional, yet practical net-zero energy home designed for a typical Midwestern consumer in today\u2019s cost-competitive residential market. With the depletion of natural resources and increasing use of energy worldwide, efficient home design is essential to our country\u2019s energy security and future prosperity. The INhome is one vision for future residential housing. <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1399\" INhome.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, more than twenty thousand visitors showed a particular interest for the Biowall, which encouraged the Purdue team to research more the VOC removal capacity, plant health and growth media content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1399 Purdue University students started working towards the goal of competing in the United States Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon, a high profile international competition where 20 collegiate teams design, build, and demonstrate solar powered houses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The students built the house on campus and then moved to Washington D.C., where the competition was held from September 23 to October 2, 2011.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The INhome finished in 2nd place overall during the competition, which consisted of 10 individual contests: architecture, market appeal, engineering, communications, affordability, comfort zone, hot water, appliances, home entertainment, and energy balance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-947-4\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-has-style\" ><div class=\"siteorigin-panels-stretch panel-row-style
