{"id":8277,"date":"2026-01-12T11:44:53","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T16:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/bidc\/?page_id=8277"},"modified":"2026-01-25T17:25:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T22:25:01","slug":"storage-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/bidc\/policies\/storage-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Storage Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div  class=\"purdue-home-cta-banner purdue-home-teritary-hero \">\n        <div class=\"section has-none-background has-padding-top-large has-padding-bottom-large \">\n        <div class=\"container\">\n            <h1 class=\"second-level-page-heading purdue-home-teritary-hero__header\">Storage Policy<\/h1>\n            <div class=\"purdue-home-teritary-hero__content\">\n                \n\n<p><\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover is-light\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-white-background-color has-background-dim-100 has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-cover-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Definitions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Members:<\/strong>\u00a0Purdue students with an active project.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Center Hosted Teams:<\/strong>&nbsp;Bechtel annually allocated a limited number of spaces in Assembly BIDC B003 to Purdue clubs.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Staff:<\/strong>&nbsp;All full-time employees at the Bechtel Center.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Central Lost and Found:<\/strong>\u00a0A sub section of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/surplus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Purdue Surplus<\/a>\u00a0that manages lost and found items for Purdue.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lost and Found:&nbsp;<\/strong>A location in the center where we store unclaimed items for a week.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Controlled Door:<\/strong>&nbsp;A door that only opens with the ID of an authorized individual.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Storage Location:<\/strong>&nbsp;Instead of storing item\/s we may provide a location where the member may store items themselves.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assigned Location:&nbsp;<\/strong>A location designated for storage of items from a lab. Currently not well defined.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assigner:<\/strong>&nbsp;A center employee who has the ability to grant storage through storage tags.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assignee:&nbsp;<\/strong>A Purdue student\/staff\/entity that is being granted storage through storage tags.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disclaimer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Storage is at your own risk. No compensation will be provided for lost, damaged or stolen items.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abandoned items may be trashed, used or sent to lost and found based on size, value and\/or utility without notice.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Items stored without following the rules in this document will be considered abandoned.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allowance of storage doesn\u2019t imply an allowance of use. This generally applies to chemicals under the Chemical Policy and tools under the safety Class system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exceptions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy doesn\u2019t apply to the following locations, which are covered by different guidelines stated below.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Location<\/th><th>For<\/th><th>Guidelines<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Office Spaces<\/td><td>Staff<\/td><td>\u2013 Staff may store items in their office.&nbsp;<br>\u2013 They must be actively employed at the Bechtel Center. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Peer Mentor Lockers and Cabinets<\/td><td>Student Employees<\/td><td>\u2013 Student employees may store items in their&nbsp;personal lockers\/drawers.&nbsp;<br>\u2013 Lockers\/drawers must be allocated through staff approval.&nbsp;<br>\u2013 They must be actively employed at the Bechtel Center.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Break Room<\/td><td>All Employees<\/td><td>\u2013 Employees may store food items in the shared space.&nbsp;<br>\u2013&nbsp;Any spilled, expired and\/or rotting food may be discarded at any employee\u2019s discretion.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Assembly<\/td><td>Center Hosted Teams<\/td><td>\u2013 Teams may store items within the boundaries of their designated location.&nbsp;<br>\u2013 They must be actively sponsored by the Bechtel Center.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Receiving<\/td><td>Members<\/td><td>\u2013 Guidelines found in Receiving Policy.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Storage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We offer 3 major types of storage, each with its own scope, restrictions and requirements. All storage requires valid center issued tags.
