Information for New AFL Users

Once you have read the information below and completed all of the requirements, your last stop before entering the AFL will be the Check-In desk.



How do I access the AFL?

All students and faculty at Purdue are invited to utilize the facilities of the Artisan and Fabrication Lab. To access the AFL, users must complete a simple 3-step registation process. To access the AFL registation page, click on the AFL Registration Link.

- Step 1: Complete the AFL Registration Form by entering the contact information requested.

- Step 2: Read and Sign the "Expectations of Using the AFL" by reading and acknowledging with your electronic signature the "Expectations of Using the AFL".

- Step 3: Read the "Safety Contract" and take the "Safety Quiz".

After completion of these steps, users will be able to submit projects on the link provided above. For more information on this process, please view the Information for Current AFL Users.



Project Submittal Process

The following steps are required to submit a new project:

  1. Become a registered user of the AFL (see below).
  2. Visit the AFL to discuss your project requirements, materials, etc with the AFL staff.
  3. After disucssing your project with an AFL employee, submit a project on-line to the AFL by completing the "Submit New Project" link.
  4. The AFL staff will evaluate your project and determine the necessary training for you to complete the project.
  5. Complete necessary training as determined by the AFL staff.

You must discuss your project personally with an AFL employee and receive the required training before access to the machinery will be granted.

What should I bring with me?

The following items must always be brought with you to the AFL:

  1. Safety Glasses (Other Personal Protective Equipment Provided)
  2. Purdue ID
  3. Materials (Wood, Paint, Glue, etc)
  4. MSDS Sheets (When Applicable)
