Prohibitions
No Food or Drink
When hazardous materials are being handled in the lab, food and drink consumption is prohibited.
No Lone Working
Users of the space must always have at least one buddy.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Safety Glasses
Safety glasses must be worn while handling hazardous materials such as Nylon 12 powder or printer resins.
N95 Mask or Equivalent
An N95 mask or equivalent respiratory protection must be worn while handling hazardous materials such as Nylon 12 powder or printer resins.
Protective Gloves
Nitrile protective gloves must be worn while handling hazardous materials such as Nylon 12 powder or printer resins.
Hazards
Laser Beam
The lab has two Class IV lasers which operate as Class II lasers when fully closed and the interlocks aren’t defeated. When run as Class II lasers, no PPE is required as the windows protect the operator from harmful radiation.
Hot Surfaces
Printer outer surfaces and, especially, internal build chambers will become hot during use. Additionally, lasered material may be warm, even hot to the touch immediately after lasering.
Entanglement & Pinching
Rotating machinery in the lab may present entanglement and pinching hazards during operation. This includes operation of the Fuse Sift’s cartridge mixer and laser rotary functions.
Combustible & Flammable Materials

Poisonous Substances
Many printing materials are toxic when ingested such as Nylon 12 powder and printer resins, so appropriate PPE must be worn when handling.
Airborne Poisonous Substances
3D printer powder has the potential to become airborne. Avoid touching loose powder and clear room of unmasked personnel upon the event of a spill.
