The Bechtel Center contains many powerful processes and tools, from simple to complex. The Standard Operating Procedure documents are intended to:

• Teach the anatomy and names of a process / piece of equipment – clear communication is key to safe and effective use
• Inform users of all the hazards – many users of the Center are intelligent but have not had the opportunity to gain experience, and even experienced people can miss the obvious sometimes
• Bare-bones descriptions of successful operations with details on what not to do – again, pointing out obvious ways to lose your part or project, after safety, is of primary importance
