If there’s only one university in all of Indiana achieving a place among the nation’s top on-campus makerspaces, it’s bound to be the university with “maker” as part of their “Boilermaker” nickname.
Thanks to makerspaces on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, most notably, the Bechtel Innovation Design Center (Bechtel), students have around-the-clock access to rooms and tools with which to build prototypes of their brainstorms. Projects at Bechtel might involve the use of advanced, high-end equipment, such as 3D printers, waterjet cutters and laser engravers. Bechtel is also the site for projects that are too large to be undertaken elsewhere on campus, such as the building of a solar-power race car.
