Safety Committee

The center is under an Integrated Safety Program under the university. One of the core requirements for our ISP certification is a active safety committee. This policy describes the purpose of the safety committee, it’s responsibilities and current active members.

Charter:

The Bechtel Safety Committee (BSC) consists of staff, graduate mentors, supervisors and/or peer mentors committed to increasing safety culture throughout the Center via training, education, policy development and implementation, safety inspections, and open communication.

Responsibilities of Members:

  1. Attend and participate in bi-weekly committee meetings.
    • Mode: In-person meeting in BIDC 122 with recorded audio.
    • Attendance: Only incidental absences. If you are absent you must review the meeting recordings to come up to speed with discussions.
  2. Read and implement applicable compliance documents from EHS.
    • Objective: Minimize disruption while adhering to all requirements.
    • Records: Compliance should rarely be a personal statement and should be demonstrable through electronic records.
  3. Investigate and review injuries and near-misses.
    • Corrective Actions: Controls, Training, SOP update, Hazard Assessment update etc.
  4. Inspect areas for compliance with safety policies and practices.
    • Records: Inspections should be electronically recorded.
    • Corrective Actions: Controls, Training, Disciplinary actions.

Lief Picture
Lief Wezeman: I will promote safety in the Woodshop by conducting regular hazard assessments, implementing effective training and documentation solutions, and fostering open communication between all levels of authority at the center.
Conor Picture
Conor Keitz: I will promote safety in electronics by reducing lead exposure where possible, ensuring proper training for equipment use, and continuing to ensure proper treatment and storage of chemicals present in the lab.
Gabriel Picture
Gabriel Boyd: I will promote safety in Printing & Prototyping by ensuring proper handling and documentation of chemicals and machines in the lab as well as regular upkeep of machine safety systems and PPE supplies.
Naren Picture
Naren Ram: I will promote safety within the BIDC by ensuring a vigilant, policy driven approach to maintaining safe working conditions.
Josh Picture
Josh Tolemy: I will promote safety in the Center by ensuring safety plans and policies are correct and consistent and by working with other committee members to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Ani Picture
Anirudh Pal: I will promote safety in the Center through rigorous analysis of hazards and regulations. I will address problems through policies, practices and documentation.
