Scholarship Information

Each year, Purdue Bands & Orchestras awards over $350,000 in scholarship support. With a department of 1000+ students, we want to be sure no student is denied the opportunity to continue playing and performing at the collegiate level.

Leath Scholarship

Incoming freshman instrumentalists have the opportunity to audition for the Leath Scholarship on Saturday, February 10th, 2018.  Purdue Bands & Orchestras hosts a day filled with auditions, campus tours, and informational sessions.

This opportunity is open to instrumental students only. Auditions for pianists are strictly limited to jazz piano. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2018. Please fill out and submit your Leath Scholarship Application. Pending a review of applications, students will be invited to campus for the Leath Scholarship Audition day, Saturday, February 10th, 2018.

Wind and percussion auditions will take place from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Elliott Hall of Music). String auditions will take place from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm (Elliott Hall of Music). Parents and prospective students are encouraged to attend an informational session from 8:00-9:00 am or 12:00-1:00 pm (Wilmeth Active Learning Center, room 1087) before or after their audition. The informational session will discuss ensemble opportunities at Purdue Bands & Orchestras, as well as audition information, leadership and travel opportunities, and more. Campus tours will also be available throughout the day.

Selection and review will be performed by faculty. Please prepare an advanced, professional level solo piece from your state’s required Solo & Ensemble list, without accompaniment. All scholarship offers will be made after May 1st.  Approximately twenty-five to thirty students will be selected, receiving a maximum of $1,000 for in-state recipients and $2,500 for out-of-state recipients.

Upperclassmen (sophomores-seniors) apply for scholarships via an online application form each semester.  Selection is determined by the faculty. This opportunity is open to every student who is enrolled in one of our classes at the time applications are due.
