Matt Skiba was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana and is honored to return home as a graduate assistant for Purdue Bands & Orchestras. A graduate of Harrison High School, Matt worked with teachers such as Steve Pedigo, Douglas Koleszar, and Steve Cotten before beginning his studies at DePauw University.
While at DePauw, Matt performed in a range of ensembles including the Jazz Ensemble, DePauw Pops Orchestra,
and the University Band. Matt studied primarily with James Beckel on trombone, but also studied conducting with Craig Pare’ and Orcenith Smith. During his collegiate years, he has spent time working in a range of settings including Greencastle Middle and High School Bands, the 6th grade low brass of Battle Ground Middle School, the Speedway 500 Regiment Marching Band, and Avon High School (as his student teaching placement). Outside of Greencastle, Matt spent time studying Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem in London and participated in an Off-Broadway internship in New York City.
Graduating with a degree in Music Education, Matt looks forward to one day becoming a band director with his own program.
