The Girl-in-Black & Miss Boilerette

The Girl-in-Black soloist feature twirler with the “All-American” Marching Band is a compliment to the Golden Girl with her superior talent. During the 1961 season, there were guest “Golden Girls,” but no permanent soloist accompanying the Golden Girl. Originally performing as the “International Twirler” in 1962, an announcer exclaimed, “Who is that girl in black?” and the position earned its title. Miss Boilerette was part of the Purdue Twirling program during the 2010-2011 season and was revived in 2018 due to an abundance of talent.

Haley Aiken of Jeannette, PA, will perform a 3rd consecutive season as the Girl-in-Black. Aiken has been twirling for 15 years and is a junior studying Psychological Sciences.

Katie Harris of Fort Collins, CO is taking the field as Miss Boilerette. She was last seen on the field as a Silver Twin during the 2021-2022 season. Harris is a sophomore in Interior Design.
