When are music auditions?

- Current Students: After Spring Break 2023
- Purdue University Co-Op Program/Internship: Send a recorded audition to Professor Gephart or audition upon return to campus in August. Students who wish to be considered for Wind Ensemble or Philharmonic Winds/Percussion must contact Professor Gephart immediately.
How do I sign up for auditions?

- Members of the faculty will hold in-person auditions and place instrumentalists into appropriate ensembles. Auditions will be preassigned during rehearsal. Preliminary ensemble placement will be communicated via email in mid-April. Official ensemble placement will be communicated via email in late July.

What should I prepare for my audition?
Audition Etudes & Requirements:
WOODWIND/BRASS

- Audition etudes are available HERE. Contact bandsinfo@purdue.edu for the password to access etudes.
- Students are required to play one etude of their choice.
- Students interested in Wind Ensemble or Philharmonic Orchestra Winds must play Etude 2 and 3.
- Please prepare the two scales specified on your audition sheet.
- Students will play alone, without accompaniment.
- If you do not have access to the instruments needed to perform your audition, please contact audition Caitlin for alternative audition instructions.
PERCUSSION

- Audition etudes are available HERE. Contact bandsinfo@purdue.edu for the password to access etudes.
- Please prepare the snare and mallet requirements and etudes specified on the audition sheet.
- Students interested in Wind Ensemble or Philharmonic Orchestra should play the timpani audition, in addition to snare and mallet.
- Percussionists should prepare two rudiments, if applicable.
- Students will play alone, without accompaniment.
- If you do not have access to the instruments needed to perform your audition, please contact Caitlin for alternative audition instructions.
How do I enroll in a concert band or orchestra?

- Returning students: Ensemble lists will be emailed. Place your Band or Orchestra course near the top of your batch registration preferences, if possible to help avoid conflicts.
