About Us

Purdue Bands & Orchestras has been providing curricular ensemble opportunities to the students of Purdue University for over 130 years. With no music majors at Purdue, our 1,200+ students span almost every discipline, spreading the optimistic spirit of Purdue Bands & Orchestras across campus. From world-renowned performances by over 30 different ensembles, including the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, Purdue Bands & Orchestras is considered the “Heartbeat of the University” and encourages a lifelong journey with music.

Mission Statement: Purdue University Bands and Orchestras educates students in music through a performance-based curriculum which:

  1. cultivates knowledge and appreciation of the musical arts in order to function as intelligent musical consumers and advocates
  2. develops students as performers, listeners, and scholars
  3. provides musical performances to meet the entertainment, educational and social needs of the students, the university community, the state of Indiana and beyond
