Application Process for Fall 2022

STEP 1: Review qualifications, primary activities, and key dates below.

STEP 2: Complete an online application - open February 14th - March 6th. 

STEP 3: Attend Group Interviews (by invitation only, held during the week of March 21st - March 25th)  

STEP 4: Participate in an Individual Interview (by invitation only) 

Qualifications for SI Leaders

In order to become an SI leader, a student must:

  • Be an undergraduate Purdue student
  • Have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or
  • Have a 3.3 term GPA for the previous two semesters (does not include summer terms)  and
  • Meet course requirements (typically an A or B+ in the course; may also include prerequisite course(s))
  • Be able to commit to working 10-15 hours per week in this position
  • Be able to attend the two-day pre-semester training (August 18th-19th, 2022)
  • Complete all steps of the application process (see below)
  • Attend one of the following:
    • One of the four Interest Sessions or
    • Four or more in-person SI sessions during the Spring 2022 or Fall 2021 semesters
  • Applicants who do not have a GPA or cannot attend the lecture time for their course will not be considered

Responsibilities of an SI Leader

  • Attending all lectures for assigned SI course
  • Planning and facilitating two or three 50-minute sessions a week
  • Holding one office hour a week
  • Meeting with course faculty throughout the semester
  • Meeting with SI Leader team and professional staff supervisor a few times a semester
  • Attending SI’s monthly team meetings
  • Additional documentation, administrative tasks, and professional development opportunities

Hours and Pay

Typically, we expect our SI Leaders to work between 10-15 hours per week throughout a semester. As an SI Leader, you can expect to have your pay start at $10 per hour.

Interest Sessions

Interested in becoming an SI leader, and want to learn more? Please attend one of our interest sessions! These one-hour in-person sessions allow candidates to get a more thorough understanding of the role of SI Leader, including an opportunity to ask questions of current SI Leaders, in order to determine if the position is a good fit for them before they apply.

Interest Sessions for Fall 2022 SI Leader positions are listed below. All Interest Sessions will be held in-person in the Academic Success Center (WILY C215). Please note that  registration is required to attend one of these sessions. Space is limited at each session and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

All Interest Session registrations are now closed. 
  • Interest Session #1 – Thursday, February 17th 5:30 - 6:30 PM
  • Interest Session #2 – Friday, February 18th 3:00 – 4:00 PM
  • Interest Session #3 – Monday, February 21st 6:00 – 7:00 PM
  • Interest Session #4 – Wednesday, February 23rd 7:00 – 8:00 PM
