Application Process

The application process is the same for both Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 applicants.

STEP 1: Review qualifications, responsiblities and key dates AND Attend one of the following:

  • Four (4) SI sessions throughout Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Fall 2019; OR
  • An SI Interest Session to learn more about position (more information below)

STEP 2: Complete an online application. 

STEP 3: Attend Group Interviews (by invitation only) 

STEP 4: Participate in an Individual Interview (by invitation only) 

Interest Sessions

Interest Sessions give interested students a chance to learn more about the role of SI Leader. They will be held at the following dates and times in the ASC (WILY C215): 

  • Wednesday, September 25, 5:30-6:30 pm
  • Thursday, October 3, 1:30-2:30 pm
  • Monday, October 14, 7:30-8:30 pm

Recruiting for Spring & Summer 2020

The Supplemental Instruction program is currently recruiting new SI Leaders in the following courses for Spring 2020:

  • AAE 301
  • AAE 333
  • CHM 111/112
  • CHM 115/116
  • CHM 257
  • CS 159
  • CS 240

The SI Program will also be piloting a new Online SI program in Summer 2020, and are seeking interested candidates for this pilot program. Course offerings for this program are still TBD, but some possible options are:

  • CS 159
  • ECON 251
  • MA 16010
  • MA 16020
  • MA 162
  • MA 261
  • PHYS 241


Applicants must:

  • Have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or
  • Have a 3.3 term GPA for the previous two semesters and
  • Have received an A or B+ in the prerequisite course(s)
  • Complete all steps of the application process (see above)

**Applicants who do not have a GPA or cannot attend the lecture time for their course will not be considered.

Primary Activities

  • Attend mandatory two-day pre-semester training before classes begin (usually Friday and Saturday).
    • Friday, January 10, 2020
    • Saturday, January 11, 2020
  • Attend the assigned lecture for your course
  • Plan and conduct two or three engaging, collaborative study sessions each week during afternoons and evenings
  • Hold one office hour each week for meeting students and planning sessions
  • Meet regularly with the professor of your course
  • Attend ongoing trainings
  • Meet with the SI professional staff as required
  • Work an average of 10-15 hours per week.


The application can be accessed at beginning at 12:00 AM (midnight) on October 2. The application will be available until 11:59 PM on October 20. The application should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
