Become an SI Leader

The SI Leader application for Fall 2020 has now closed.

Students interested in the SI leader role should plan to apply for Spring 2021. The general application process and timeline is outlined below.

Application Process

STEP 1: Review qualifications, responsiblities and key dates AND Attend one of the following:

  • Four (4) or more SI sessions throughout past three semesters;  OR
  • An SI Interest Session to learn more about position (more information below)

STEP 2: Complete an online application. 

STEP 3: Attend Group Interviews (by invitation only) 

STEP 4: Participate in an Individual Interview (by invitation only) 

Interest Sessions

Interest Sessions give interested students a chance to learn more about the SI program and the role of SI Leader. Interest Sessions generally begin during Week 5, with at least 3 available sessions prior to the application close date.

Registration is required to attend an Interest Session. 

Registration information for the next Interest Sessions will be available by Week 3 of Fall 2020. Seating is limited, so be sure to register for your preferred date(s) early!


Applicants must:

  • Have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or
  • Have a 3.3 term GPA for the previous two semesters and
  • Have received an A or B+ in the prerequisite course(s)
  • Complete all steps of the application process (see above)

**Applicants who do not have a GPA or cannot attend the lecture time for their course will not be considered.

Primary Activities

  • Attend mandatory two-day pre-semester training before classes begin (usually Friday and Saturday).
  • Attend the assigned lecture for your course
  • Plan and conduct two or three engaging, collaborative study sessions each week during afternoons and evenings
  • Hold one office hour each week for meeting students and planning sessions
  • Meet regularly with the professor of your course
  • Attend ongoing trainings
  • Meet with the SI professional staff as required
  • Work an average of 10-15 hours per week.

**Due to the overlapping commitments between Fall SI Leader Training and BGR, new SI Leaders may  not participate in a leadership role in BGR. Students may apply for both roles, but if they are selected for both, they must choose only one.


The application for the following semester is generally available from Week 6 until Week 9. Check this page again during that time for the application link!
