Chair’s Corner – March 2019

Brittany Vale

Hello and welcome, spring! As we start to thaw out from a frigid winter, we’re starting to see some changes happening on campus. Some of those changes are from the Job Family Structure Project. Every staff employee on campus should have already learned his or her position placement and received information on the career development stream tool. You should also be working with your supervisor on your annual goals and professional development plan.

In the March APSAC full committee meeting, we asked Bill Bell, vice president for human resources, how many job position reviews they received during the review process window. Here’s the data he provided:

  • West Lafayette campus received a total of 513 positions to review (which was 6% of all positions on campus)
  • 75% of those reviews resulted in a change

Of the positions that changed, here’s how they were modified:

  • 68% resulted in a position that went up one level
  • 6% resulted in a position that went up two levels
  • 2% resulted in a position that went down one level
  • 7% resulted in a career stream change
  • 17% resulted in a change to job title, job family or job sub-family

I am happy to see that the review process did work and that Purdue employees were given the opportunity to be heard about the positions they fill on campus. Let’s give some credit to the Compensation Team in Human Resources for meticulously reviewing 513 job review forms.

Happy Spring, everyone!
