Chair’s Corner – September 2018

Brittany Vale

September greetings, Purdue. The past month has been very busy for APSAC. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

Big Ten staff advocacy collaboration: Danny Vukobratovich, Loran Parker, and I sat in on a telephone conference with all the Big Ten campuses staff advocacy groups on August 27. The goal of this initial conversation was to share what each staff advocacy group is currently doing and how their committees are set up. It was decided in this meeting that the chairs of all the Big Ten staff advocacy groups would meet on a bi-monthly schedule to review best practices and share recommendations. Purdue APSAC is extremely excited to be involved in this meeting of minds as we look forward to extended collaboration with other campuses.

Job family structure town halls: We have secured the date for our first town hall discussing the job family structure. Purdue Libraries has graciously agreed to host our first town hall in this series. This meeting will take place on October 1, 2018, from 1:30–3:30 p.m. in Lynn Hall, room 1136. Additional dates and times will be added to the job family structure town hall meetings page as they're scheduled.

Jay Akridge to speak at APSAC’s Lovell Leadership Series: Provost Akridge will present a talk titled “Leadership Lessons: A Personal Journey” at noon on October 3 in Pfendler Hall. His presentation will be streamed online for those who can’t attend in person.

150th events: This year marks Purdue’s sesquicentennial celebration, and it has the theme “Giant Leaps.” There will be tons of great activities and presentations between September and January. See the Purdue 150th website (takegiantleaps.com) for details.

As always, we look forward to your feedback; feel free to reach out to your APSAC member. Not sure who is responsible for your area? Check out the current members page on our website.
