What to know about leaving a vehicle on campus over winter break

With the upcoming extended break, vehicle owners should be aware of the regulations related to storing a vehicle on campus before leaving.

Vehicles may not be stored in any surface lot or parking garage on campus for longer than 24 hours without prior authorization from Parking and Transportation Services, as stated in the online Traffic and Parking Regulations (Section 4.3.2).

As an exception, individuals who live in residence halls, Purdue Village or Hawkins Hall may store their vehicle on campus without contacting Parking and Transportation Services, as long as vehicles are permitted and stored appropriately. Over winter break, residence hall permit holders must move their vehicles to the second floor or above in the McCutcheon Drive Parking Garage. Hawkins Hall permit holders may utilize the underground parking garage during break, and Purdue Village permit holders may remain in their assigned parking spaces in surface lots. Residents who temporarily relocate their vehicles to another location should return them to their regularly assigned parking locations between Jan. 11-19, 2021 as parking enforcement will resume at 7 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2021.

While McCutcheon Drive Parking Garage will remain available, the top levels of several parking garages and some gravel lots on campus will be closed during break and throughout the winter months. A map of those locations can be found here.

Additionally, vehicles that are parked on the street or in surface lots may interfere with campus snow removal activities and should be relocated accordingly. Students who do not already have a parking garage permit but wish to leave their vehicle on campus during winter break need to contact Parking and Transportation Services to make necessary arrangements, which will include the purchase of a temporary permit.

Parking and Transportation Services may be reached at (765) 494-9497 or parking@purdue.edu between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Working with Parking and Transportation Services in advance will help prevent motorists from receiving a parking citation.
