Shifting traffic lanes, limited left turns at State and Grant streets begin 5 p.m. March 8

Updated March 20, 2019 to reflect a revised map with Grant Street Parking Garage exits.

Restrictions at the State and Grant Street intersection will be implemented at 5 p.m. on Friday (March 8) with possible delays throughout the day as preparations will begin that morning. Traffic lanes will shift,  left turns will be limited and sidewalks will be closed.

No left turns will be permitted from eastbound State Street north onto Grant Street or from southbound Grant Street east onto State Street. Motorists who are traveling eastbound along State Street may continue to access the Grant Street Parking Garage with the following alternate route:

  • State Street, eastbound, to
  • Sheetz Street, southbound, to
  • Wood Street, eastbound, to
  • Grant Street, northbound

Traffic will shift south along State Street and east along Grant Street. Adjacent sidewalks will be closed, but pedestrian access will be maintained in the area with barricades and shifted traffic.

In order to ease congestion near the intersection, vehicular traffic is encouraged to exit the Grant Street Parking Garage and travel northbound via Grant Street or southbound via Andrew Place, and individuals parking in the Wood Street Parking Garage should travel southbound upon exiting. Additionally, pedestrians are encouraged to utilize the subwalk between the Purdue Memorial Union and the Grant Street Parking Garage.

A full-size map highlighting lane restrictions, alternate routes and traffic movement that will be in place through April may be downloaded. Normal traffic patterns are expected to resume in early-May.

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should exercise additional caution in the vicinity and obey posted signs and barricades.
