Chromatin and Regulation of Gene Expression
Active Mentor - currently hosting PULSe students for laboratory rotations and recruiting PULSe students into the laboratory; serves on preliminary exam committees
Current Research Interests:
The Dykhuizen lab is interested in using a combination of chemical and biochemical techniques to uncover the role of chromatin structure in tumor suppression. Uncovering the mechanisms of these complexes will reveal potential therapeutic avenues for cancers that currently have few therapeutic options. Three areas of research we are currently pursuing include (1) structural and biochemical analysis of chromatin modifying complexes, (2) genome-wide analysis to define the functional contribution of chromatin binding domains, such as bromodomains, PHD domains and chromodomains, within larger chromatin-modifying complexes, (2) identification an development of inhibitors of chromatin binding domains.
