Creating an IDP is a great way to do this, and when you\u2019re done, you\u2019ll have a tool that both you and your PI can use to keep you focused and on track to meeting your goals. <br><br>We broke down the basic steps of IDP development and then list several resources to help you through them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start with an assessment of interests, skills, and values to determine your career goal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research skills, knowledge, and experience for the career you want<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify gaps in what you know\/have now to what you want to know\/have at the end of your Purdue postdoc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Convert gaps to \u201ctraining needs\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify training opportunities and goals to meet needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify expert-mentors for each need<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present plan to PI for feedback and buy-in<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Map training needs along your contract timeline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decide on check-in frequency with self, PI and mentors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set check-in dates in calendar; invite PI\/mentors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-evaluate career goal and training needs and update IDP as needed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Purdue In-Person IDP Workshop<\/strong>s<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gspd.gosignmeup.com\/public\/course\/browse\">Strategic Postdoc-ing: How to Plan for Training Success<\/a>.
