With the advent of the internet, we have entered a newfound Age of Information. Yet, Oxford Dictionaries chose “post-truth” as Word of the Year for 2016, and our political discourse is inundated with accusations of “fake news”.
What is fake news?
How has it been brought to the forefront of our societal consciousness?
What drives it? And are those drivers a new phenomenon?
How should one navigate the open marketplace of ideas?
These are just some of the questions that will be tackled by an interdisciplinary panel of experts discussing the topic of “fake news” for the 2017 ESE Symposium.
