Training Workshops

CIGP organizes a training workshop for CSE and CLS students as a single session or in a series. These workshops are designed to provide a hands-on training experience and for students to explore popular language tools used in the areas of computational science, engineering, and life sciences.

Github Instructors

Special thanks to Nicolas Guarin Zapata, Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, and Cyrus Vandrevala, Ph.D. in Physics, who are in CS&E program and also serving as SIAM Purdue officers, for proposing the GitHub training workshop. It was a first training workshop organized for CIGP students to provide hands on learning and build more interactive community.

Python InstructorsPython Workshop

Python programming workshops were organized in three different levels for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Special thanks to the four instructors for the time and efforts and well-organized teamwork that they dedicated to making all sessions successful:

  • Aniruddha Jana, Materials Engineering, Ph.D.
  • Jayakumaran Ravi, Computer Graphics Technology, M.S.

Sequence Analysis

Karthik and XiangyingSequence Analysis 1

Karthik Padmanabhan and Xiangying Sun, Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, gave a general introduction to bioinformatics, and basic concepts in next generation sequence analysis. Topics included an overview of RNA-seq, short-read mapping and assembly and variant calling. The material covered both lectures and hands-on analysis, using RCAC servers. Thanks to Karthik and Xiangying for their hard work and endeavors.
