Contact Scholar Services

The International Scholar Services team supports international faculty, staff, postdocs and scholars holding visa status where the primary activity is employment or research: H-1B, e-3, TN, O-1, J-1 Research Scholar, J-1 Short-Term Scholar, or J-1 Visiting Undergraduate Student.

International students admitted to a Purdue University degree program or Study Abroad program and registered fulltime should refer to Contact Student Services.

Phone Contact

To talk on the phone with the scholar services team about a question regarding a Purdue J-1 scholar, J-1 Visiting Undergraduate Student or H-1B employee, please call 765-496-0653 Monday - Friday between 1:30 pm and 4 pm.

General Scholar Email

For international scholar questions (H-1B, E-3, TN, O-1, permanent residence and J-1 for individuals who are not enrolled at Purdue), email intlscholars@purdue.edu(Please do NOT email the Director)

Scholar Virtual Meetings

International Scholar Services does not currently offer any appointments in-person. Instead, we offer short virtual 'drop-in' meetings for J-1 exchange visitors (J-1 Short-Term Scholars, J-1 Research Scholars, J-1 Professors, or J-1 Student Interns who are NOT enrolled international students at Purdue). Drop-in meetings are held via Zoom on Tuesdays between 9 am and 10 am. No appointment is necessary - simply show up here and talk with an International Scholar Services counselor. These are best suited to quick questions about J-1 scholar procedures.

Please note - we cannot assist enrolled international students, and we cannot 'forward' the questions to an international student services counselor. Enrolled students MUST follow the instructions for communications details on 'Contact Student Services' webpage.

Scholar Documents

International Scholar Services is not yet equipped to accommodate unexpected visitors in our offices. While we are working toward that goal, at this time, all visits (including those to pickup or return documents) must be scheduled. Before you may schedule a visit to pick-up or return a document, you must have received an email approving you to do so.
  • J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars or Visiting Undergraduate Students
    • You must have received an email confirming the document is ready. This email will include a link to the online scheduling tool.
  • H-1, E-3, TN or O-1 status holders who want to pickup their original I-797 Receipts or approvals
    • You must go to MyISS, scroll to University Employment, and then go to "Make a Request"
    • You THEN must receive an email confirming the document is ready, and which explains how to schedule pickup
  • H-1, E-3, TN or O-1 status holders who want to return their original I-797 Receipts or approvals
    • You must schedule an appointment to return the document. You may use the link in the original email (advising you to shedule the pickup). Alternatively, you may access the link by going to MyISS, scrolling to University Employment, clicking on "International Scholar Documents" and then clicking on "Link to Scheduling Tool for Returning Documents to ISS". This is solely a link to the online scheduling tool.
  • Applicants for permanent residence who need a Supplement J
    • You must go to MyISS, scroll to University Employment, and then go to "Make a Request" to request the Supplement J. ISS does not sign Supplement Js prepared by outside attorneys.
    • You THEN must receive an email confirming the document is ready, and which explains how to schedule pickup

In all cases, showing up at our offices without an appointment is likely to be non-productive. Due to staffing shortages, counselors still work remotely much of the time and thus our offices do not have staff present on a regular basis. Further, documents require processing prior to being able to be released and counselors may not be able to accommodate unexpected document requests because of the time involved in processing those requests.

While we try to be perfect, we are human and sometimes errors occur. If there is an error with respect to the document provided to you, email intlscholars@purdue.edu with a clear explanation of the error and we will immediately prioritize correction.
