Lan Jin, PhD, is the intercultural research specialist at CILMAR. Her responsibilities include:

  • CILMAR Mini-Grants
  • research support - writing group and consultations
  • research collaborations

The most recent hire on the CILMAR staff, Lan has made big contributions in publishing work in ICL, developing grant projects, and supporting Purdue faculty, staff and students in ICL-related research. Since joining CILMAR in August 2019, Lan has published journal articles and a book chapter on topics of study abroad, virtual learning and mental health.

Lan’s research primarily focuses on intercultural competence development in classroom, study abroad, and virtual ICL environments, as well as international students’ mental health. A current CV is available here.

Lan is open to collaboration relating to:

  • research projects and grant proposals pertaining to intercultural learning
  • design and facilitation of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)-related events
foods of various culturesFun fact: Lan studied and conducted research at Purdue as an international student from 2012 to 2018. She has been living in six cities of two countries – China and the United States. Lan says that, as a Korean Chinese working in the U.S., the ways she thinks and behaves are deeply influenced by these three cultures. She is always excited to connect with different cultures and people – especially through cooking for family and friends!
