Women in Engineering (WiE) Residential Program

First-year women majoring in engineering can choose to live in the Women in Engineering Residential Program. This community has typically been housed in Meredith South Hall. The students who live on the engineering floors have access to female engineering mentors on an informal basis, who provide them with support and encouragement. Since engineering students share a common first-year curriculum, the women on the engineering floors are easily able to form study groups and social networks. Many of the resident assistants assigned to the engineering floors are engineering students themselves, and are able to relate to the residents academically as well as socially. In addition, the WiE-WISP (Women in Science Program) tutoring center is located in nearby Shreve Hall for convenience.

We strongly encourage WiE residential community participants to also join the WiE Mentees & Mentors Program (what we call M&M) and/or to register for the Engineering 19400: Women in Engineering Seminar 1-credit course offered in the Fall. Research shows that students who participate in the WiE Residential Program and at least one of these other WiE programs tend to graduate from Purdue Engineering at higher rates than those who choose not to participate. So set yourself up for success - apply to join the WiE Residential Community along with M&M and/or ENGR 19400.

You will get an e-vite over the summer to sign up for the WiE M&M program so watch your purdue.edu email. You can register for the ENGR 19400 seminar course when you register for your other Fall semester courses - so ask your advisor about it!

Participants in the WiE Residential Program can also participate in other Purdue Engineering learning communities if the residency requirement is co-located or optional, and many of them do so.
