What do you do at Purdue?

My job duties are cleaning lounge areas in the building, vacuuming, mopping, buffing, dusting, emptying trash and recycling, and setting up furniture for special meetings and events. I help students in any way I can be of service.

Which woman has inspired you most? Why?

I am a breast cancer survivor. I have completed all of my treatments of chemotherapy and radiation. I now have a great admiration for all women who have fought the battle against cancer, whether they have won or lost their fight. Only those who have traveled this road know how difficult it is and the strength it takes to continue the struggle. I also had a good friend who went with me to every chemotherapy treatment. She took time out of her day to support me. Words cannot express how much that means to anyone with this disease.

What are your goals and experiences with mentoring or encouraging others?

I have been crocheting hats that I take to the cancer center and give to patients who have lost their hair due to medical treatments. When I was starting my chemotherapy treatment, a cancer survivor took the time to speak to me and share with me what to expect and how to work through it. I would like to pay that forward and be able to help others. My ultimate goal now is to continue to be a survivor!
