Professional Development Grants Awarded

Dr. Exum awards professional development grants to Student Affairs staff
Eight staff members were awarded grants to defray the cost of attending professional development conferences and training in the coming weeks. The grant encourages staff in the Division of Student Affairs to participate in professional development that will benefit students and student life, the staff member and his or her department, and the entire Purdue community.

"I will be attending the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive conference in Austin, TX to catch up on the latest trends in social media and technology in order to better communicate with Purdue students in the age of Facebook and Twitter."

"I’ll be using the grant to attend the American College Personnel Association 2012 National Conference in Louisville, KY. While at the conference, I will be presenting a program with Matt Wietbrock from Purdue Police Department about mental health and substance use in the college student population. I will also be participating in activities with the Commission for Alcohol and Other Drug Issues, of which I am a member of the directorate body."

"I’ll be using it to attend the annual meeting of the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists this March in Chicago".

"I plan to use the VPSA grant to supplement other grant funding to attend the 2012 National Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention Conference hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The conference will be held in Minneapolis, MN from March 12-15 this year. In addition to this grant, I was awarded a partial sponsorship from the CDC to attend the conference as well."
