New documentary zooms in on Purdue’s diverse World War II experiences
Narratives from World War II are most commonly told from the white male perspective. But graduate student Michelle Martindale, working for Purdue’s Veterans Success Center, wanted to amplify the voices of Purdue women and minorities who also contributed their efforts to the war. 

Purdue students will dedicate community service hours to fallen military members
Students in the Purdue Student Union Board, Veterans Success Center and Purdue Student Veteran Organization will perform community service to help honor those who lost their lives while serving in the country’s armed forces. Purdue staff and faculty may submit names of their family who died in military service; names should be sent to Jamie Richards.

Purdue to honor fallen military members with flag retirement ceremony
To help honor those who died while serving in the country’s armed forces, Purdue will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25. Organized by the Purdue Student Union Board, Purdue’s Veterans Success Center, and the Purdue Student Veterans Organization, the ceremony will take place near the Unfinished Block P sculpture outside the Purdue Memorial Union. In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be canceled.

Student veteran to carry Indiana Bicentennial Torch to honor astronaut Gus Grissom
When Indiana’s Bicentennial Torch arrives in West Lafayette on Oct. 12, Purdue student Dustin Weisner will carry the flame for about a quarter of a mile to honor the late Gus Grissom, a Purdue alumnus and astronaut who also served in the military. 

Faculty and staff invited to attend workshops on military-connected student experience
Green Zone training provides participants with the understanding and tools necessary to better serve the roughly 400 veteran and military students on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus. A nod to the heavily fortified zone in the center of Baghdad, Iraq, “Green Zone” refers to a location recognized by veterans as a safe place, and Purdue faculty and staff are invited to participate in several upcoming sessions.
