Q.  How many boilers are located in the Power Plant?
A.  We have four (4) boilers inside the Power Plant. Three are coal-fired and one is gas/oil fired.

Q.  Do you make the electricity that is used on campus?
A. Yes. We are able to generate our own electricity.

Q. How much electricity can you make?
A. We can generate approximately 40 megawatts (MW) using three (3) generators: one (1) 29 MW turbine generator; one (1) 10 MW turbine generator; and one (1) 1.75 MW diesel generator.

Q.  Can you make enough electricity to power the entire campus?
A.  Yes, if needed, we can supply the entire campus with enough electricity. The maximum campus load averages approximately 47.2 MW.

Q.  Do you make refrigeration?
A.  Yes. We have nine (9) centrifugal chillers, four (4) are turbine-driven chillers and five (5) are electric-driven chillers.

Q.  How many people work at the Power Plant?
A.  Currently, 68 full-time staff and one temporary staff work at the Power Plant.

Q.  How much coal do you burn each year?
A.  Approximately 181,000 tons of coal are burned each year at an approximately cost of $8.1 million.
