What do I need to do before I come to STAR?

IMPORTANT!! You must register in advance for a specific STAR date. If you haven't already, log on to myPurdue to select your STAR date and then register for that specific date. If you need help, step-by-step instructions on how to choose and register for a STAR date are available (.pdf file).

Things You Must Do Before You Come To STAR:

  1. Take a Math Placement Test. You will need to have your online student career (computer) account set up in order to do this (see above for more information). Please complete this as soon as possible (ideally by June 8th), and at minimum at least 48 hours BEFORE your STAR date.
  1. Complete the Pre-Registration Information for STAR online. You will need your Math Placement Test result(s) to do this. The information you provide will be used by your academic advisor to begin to get to know you and help you choose classes for the fall when you come to STAR. Please complete this as soon as possible (ideally by June 8th), and at minimum at least 48 hours BEFORE your STAR date.
  1. Get ready to register for Fall semester during STAR by giving some thought to the classes you may want to take. We've gathered some suggestions on how to explore the wide variety of different majors and courses offered at Purdue. There is also helpful information about how to use Purdue's online registration system. Reviewing this information now will help make registering yourself for Fall classes easier during STAR.

Other Important Things to Consider:

  • If you've had two or more years of a foreign language in high school (but none in college) and plan to continue at Purdue you will need to take a foreign language placement test. This can be done while you're at Purdue for STAR.

  • During STAR you can take an optional Advanced Credit exam in communications, math, chemistry, or biology and earn Purdue credit before the start of next semester (physics exams will be offered in August right before classes begin). You do not need to register in advance in order to take one of these exams, but you will need a signed Form 231 from your academic advisor in order to take one/more Advanced Credit exam.

  • If your final transcript is available, contact your high school and ask them to send it to Purdue.
