Transfer Credit

It is very common for students to take classes at other institutions and then transfer the credit to their Purdue academic record. The process of receiving transfer credit for courses taken at campuses other than Purdue - West Lafayette is different depending on the institution.

If you are considering taking classes at another college or university, it is recommended that you begin the process as early as possible.  For example, if you are interested in taking summer classes, please try to visit the Credit Evaluation Office or the Office of International Students and Scholars (for non-domestic institutions) by the end of March.

Taking Courses at Purdue Regional Campuses

IMPORTANT!! Before taking a course(s) at a regional campus it is highly recommended that you complete a "Transfer Credit Evaluation Form" (CTR Form 5) and submit it to the Credit Evaluation Office, Schleman Hall, room 108. The evaluation results will be recorded on the form so that you will be aware of the following:

  1. whether or not the course credit will transfer to Purdue; and
  2. how the credit will appear on your Purdue transcript.

After the CTR Form 5 is evaluated it will be forwarded to your academic advisor who will forward a copy to you.

Please note the following:

  • Evaluated CTR forms are valid for 3 years
  • If transfer credit is to be recorded as undistributed credit (e.g., CHM 1XXXX), then an academic advisor from the college of school where your major is housed (not your USP advisor) can let you know how the credit will be used (i.e. fulfill a major requirement or an elective).

Transfer credit policy

If you take a course at one of the Purdue regional campuses (i.e., Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central, IPFW, IUPUI or IUPUC), both the credit and the grade will transfer to Purdue - West Lafayette.

Please note the following:

  • Grades for courses taken at Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central, and IPFW will automatically be recorded on your Purdue transcript.
  • For courses taken at IUPUC and IUPUI, an official transcript must be submitted to the Office of Admissions in order to the have the course recorded on your Purdue transcript. The transcript is to be sent to the following address:
