Purdue Theatre to stage Chekhov's 'The Seagull'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's Division of Theatre will present Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull" at the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts, 552 W. Wood St.

The play is part of the Marquee Series, and performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 14) and Saturday (Nov. 15), and Nov. 19-22. A 3 p.m. matinee will be offered on Nov. 23.

A special preview of "The Seagull" also will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 13), with all seats $6 general admission.

Professor Gordon McCall, head of Purdue's directing program, will direct the production, which is about theater and the absurdity of life. He said the play features the journey of a conflicted family that vacations by a lake on a 19th century Russian estate.

Professor Richard Sullivan Lee, who directed the recent production of "You Can't Take It With You," will play the role of Sorin in "The Seagull."

Tickets for regular performances are $17 for the general public, $10 for students and $13 for seniors age 62 and older.

Tickets for "The Seagull" are available at the Pao Hall, Elliott Hall and Stewart Center box offices or at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
